COLOMBIA MOTORCYCLE TRIP DESCRIPTION
Based on customer feed back we have decided to turn our most popular motorcycle route in Colombia into a full motorcycle tour through the coffee region. Almost all the travelers who come back say the same thing: "This is the perfect loop", the rest said "This place is awesome!"
Visit the famous Piedra de Peñol in Guatape, Take a high altitude ride on the Nevado Ruiz Volcano, take a coffee tour in Salento as well as walking through the Wax Palms in the Valle Cocora, and as always, enjoy all the twists and turns while riding a motorcycle through some of the amazing scenery in the world.
Another cool thing about this trip is that this route through Colombian "Eje Cafetero" or Coffee Axis is in the top 9 routes in South America, bucket list items not to be missed for the adventure rider! according to AdventureBikeRider.com
ITINERARY
Day 1 - Medellin - Guatape
Recommended Hotel: Zocalo Campestre
We will cruise out of town in the coolness of the early morning, just as the city begins to wake, onto the highway east toward the resort town of Guatapé. About a 2 hour ride from Medellin, the colonial town of Guatapé sits on the shores of a crystal blue reservoir.
Climb the nearby “El Peñon de Guatape” for an unforgettable 360-degree view of the landscape the is known as the “the top of the rock with the best view in the world.” We will then walk the streets of the town, snapping photos of the brightly colored houses. We will also have a chance to dine on fresh empanadas and drink ice cold cerveza michelada.
Day 2 - Guatape – Sonson

We head to Sonson via a beautiful winding road with spectacular views around almost every curve. Arriving in Sonson we will stay at a 200 year old hotel filled with an amazing eclectic antique collection. We will grab a pizza on the balcony that overlooks the main square and the green countryside.
Day 3 - Sonsón to Salamina

Today we take a short drive north to Salamina, a beautiful town located on top of a hill with steep streets which was declared a National Heritage site in 1982.
Day 4 - Free Day in Salamina

While staying in Salamina, we leave one day aside for a trip over to the hamlet of San Felix and the nearby Samaria Valley. Here we will find the national tree of Colombia, the Quindío Wax Palm. The wax palm (also known as Palma de Cera or Ceroxylon Quindiuense) is the tallest palm in the world, and was officially adopted as a national symbol of Colombia in 1985. Found along the central and eastern Andes of Colombia, the Cocora valley of Quindío department is the popular place for visitors to see these magnificent trees that can grow up to a height of 60m (~200 ft). The trip is filled with spectacular scenery and once you arrive you feel like you have somehow discovered a special place that hardly any other foreigner has set eyes upon.
Day 5 - Salamina to Manizales

Today we tackle the worlds longest road climb. Alto de Letras is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 3.679m (12,070ft) above the sea level, located in central Colombia. It’s said to be the longest road climb in the world. The climb starts at a sub-tropical 468 meters, in the town of Mariquita, and tops out at an arctic 3.679 meters. We end the day in the mountain town of Manizales located next to the Nevado de Ruiz stratovolcano.
Day 6 - Manizales to Jardin

Jardín, is a gorgeous and authentic colonial town and is known as the most beautiful town in Colombia. Jardín is known for its colorful houses, vibrant floral displays, and delicious milk candies. You may take a walk through the main plaza of El Libertador Park which features rose gardens, water fountains, and the neo-Gothic Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Day 7 - Jardin to Medellin
Recommended Hotel: Diez Hotel Categoria
Sorry dudes, today we have to go back to Medellin. The trip is beautiful though and its a great way to end an awesome motorcycle adventure in Colombia.
