The Indigenous Health in Medicine program at Dalhousie University developed an outreach program to engage, welcome and recruit Indigenous youth to consider post-secondary studies and careers in health. Our mission is to offer a welcoming environment and expose our Indigenous youth to academic, athletic, social and cultural opportunities available at Dalhousie University. In the 1-week curriculum, we integrate health professional programs with the science instruction and cultural knowledge. Our partnerships extend to Nova Scotia Community College, Saint Francis Xavier University and Cape Breton University. Funding for this work is provided through Dalhousie Medicine, Johnson Scholarship Foundation and the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.
