LabGrab.com was able to get a tour of the Empyrean high-performance diffractometer that debuted at Pittcon 2010 (28 February - 5 March, Florida, US). Every major element of Empyrean is new: the X-ray source, the state-of-the-art goniometer, the sample stages and the radiation enclosure. Importantly, the instrument also introduces the worlds first 3D detection system, PIXcel3D.
