One of those reasons why I particularly love diesel powered trains is sound, being a big part of why diesel-traction always feels so 'alive'. That could be a roaring and rattling engine, a dramatic turbo- or supercharger or a as in this case; screaming air cooler.
I'm pretty sure not all class 170s have such a dramatic air cooler, but this specific 3-car Northern set definitely does! Just hear that puppy scream away! 🔥
Scarborough itself turned out to be a very pleasant visit; the weather was great and the coastal city is a downright scenic experience! I was hoping for a nice Class 68 departure, but instead got this. Not disappointed!
