This year marks the 220th anniversary of one of the most important inventions of the watchmaking industry, an invention that most watch enthusiasts will know. On June 26, 1801, Master watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet filed a patent for an invention known as the tourbillon. This regulator was designed to counter the negative effects of gravity and improve the regularity of watches. Breguet's idea was to install the escapement in a mobile carriage that performed a complete rotation every minute (or something a bit more).
To celebrate 220 years of tourbillon by Breguet, MONOCHROME takes a closer look at the history of this regulator as well as how Breguet still perpetuates this heritage in its modern collections, including the recently-introduced Breguet Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Anniversaire 5365.
