Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams on Wednesday (18/3) called for talks with unionist leader David Trimble as he met with members of Congress pushing a peace accord in Northern Ireland.
Adams, meeting with a group of lawmakers who have large Irish-American constituencies, said he wanted to "call upon the other party leaders, especially Mr Trimble, who has enjoyed the hospitality as I have of the USA, who's bound to see that there's a hope and a prayer here that this can work."

Gerry Adams meeting congressmen;
SOT (in English) Adams saying they want to be part of an agreement. They were going home with that in mind. They have to look forward in the hope that there will be an agreement, but no one could predict exactly what would emerge. It was the best opportunity. They have that trinity of London, Dublin and the White House, and all the party leaders. There were difficultuies, a lot of issues to resolve, but it was down to political will and people getting real and political leaders
being prepared to take risks. They had outlined a democratic imperative. There had to be justice. There was huge inequality, a militarised occupation zone and the need for balanced constitutional change. The British government had to be in the leadership in that. An equality agenda was fundamental to any political change. There was a need for total demilitarisation.
SOT Chairman Ben Gilman of the House International Relations committee saying they passed a resolution supporting the peace process, condemning the violence and urging all parties to move forward.
