Inakadate in Aomori Prefecture may seem like just any small village in Japan, with rice fields as far as the eye can see. However, several of these rice fields are anything but ordinary.
Inakadate has been creating incredible works of art using their rice fields for decades now. Using different strains of rice plants, they can create incredible details and color contrast. Along with traditional Japanese artwork and folklore, there have even been creations with western themes like Star Wars and Gone with the Wind!
Inakadate Rice Art is a must see for all who visit northern Japan. Go to the Inakadate Village Office to climb the observation deck and see the first art field. The second field is located at Yayoi Road Station, also easily accessible by train to Tanbo Art Station.
