This year's Vatican Christmas tree arrived from Germany.
The 30 metre- (98 feet) high tree was set up on Thursday morning in Saint Peter's Square, marking the beginning of the Nativity celebrations at the Vatican.
The tree was cut from a forest in the southern German region of Bavaria and according to lumberjack Bernhard Wisgickl, it was selected because it has two tips, symbolising the coexistence of two popes: Pope Francis and Pope emeritus Benedict XVI.
Still bare, the tree will soon be decorated with over 1,200 decorations handmade by children affected by various types of cancer.
The tree will be inaugurated in December and by its side is expected to be a life-size nativity scene.
