Concerns about climate change and CO2 emissions have made air travel a contentious subject. As a commercial airline pilot Linton has a unique perspective on this. He puts forward a more balanced scorecard when it comes to evaluating air travel, and suggests numerous ways we can mitigate the impact of our journeys.
Linton Foat is the Head of Airbus Operations for a large UK airline and an active pilot, specialising in engineering and safety and risk management.
This talk was delivered at TEDxBollington on 16 June 2019 and was curated by Sara Knowles. The theme was ‘The Art of Connection’ and is inspired by Bollington’s community - it draws upon how we connect with others, the landscape, our past, present and future. Connections and contrasts inspire and define us as a community. Our speakers convey the art of connection through diverse forms such as communication, design, science, mindfulness, mental health and wellbeing through to the environment and technology.
Linton has a passion for technology and how this will shape our lives in the future. In his talk he will explore why it’s important to consider how we travel, where to and the social, environmental and economic costs. As the Head of Airbus Operations for a large UK airline and an active pilot flying worldwide, Linton is skilled in flight operations and safety management systems, risk management and engineering. He introduced FlyPink to the airline he works for, a charity event raising awareness and donations for breast cancer treatment & care. Linton holds a Bachelor of Engineering, Mechanical – 1st Hons, from the University of Technology, Sydney (Australia) and is a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Outside of industry he is a Scout leader and enjoys walking, cycling and music. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
