When avid kayaker David Hosch reached out to the KU School of Engineering, he was looking for a solution. Hosch relies on a wheelchair and wanted an accessible way to transport his kayak.
“I’d have to climb on top of my van and strap the kayak down up there,” Hosch said. “Getting it to a lake or a river, getting it from the car to the water, those were the biggest impediments to me being able to kayak on my own."
After observing and listening, thinking and planning, a team of engineering students designed and built a device that gave David exactly what he needed: the independence to do what he loves.
