In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Australian journalist Anthony Klan said, "The Chinese government has been taking down reports from the Internet and even arrested one journalist for reporting the fact that the death toll was much higher than the four alleged by the Chinese government...The Chinese apparatus is good at covering issues up"
Anthony Klan comments came after an investigative report by Australian newspaper The Klaxon claimed that at least 38 Chinese troops drowned in the early stages of the June 15-16 battle while attempting to cross back over the Galwan River in the dark.
The incident happened on June 15, 2020, when Chinese troops and India soldiers clashed in eastern Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. As many as 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of Chinese troops died in the clash. In February 2021, Beijing announced medals for four of its soldiers who died in the clash, accepting and revealing for the first time the Chinese casualties in the incident.
