President Barack Obama has arrived in Senegal with his family at the start of an eight-day trip to Africa.
The US hopes the tour will jump-start its relationship with the continent where many feel neglected by the Obama administration.
Although some will give him a warm welcome, expectations that the first Afro-American president would build relationships which would lead to trade have not materialised.
In a country with an unemployment rate of 48 percent, Senegal is looking to Washington to join others like China in exploiting investment opportunities.
