As a 'sideshow' at Hollycombe's Fairground at Night Events; a warmer alternative to queuing for the rides outside in the dark; we ran our Skandinavian Double-Decker layout [pre-Covid]. Hence the fairgorund and ever-changing lighting of the layout in these 3 sessions recorded before visitors arrived.
The 5.4m x 1.5m x 2 scenic level (4 track levels) Scandinavian Themed Layout is built with an Aluminium Square Tube Frame and XPS sheets - in either 1.5m x 600mm or 3m x 600mm double deck sections separated by 250mm, and when bolted together it can easily be carried by just 2 people, and also (but not recommended !) be loaded by 1 once on its 3m long low-trolley' onto which the boards stack to travel down the centre of our camper van. It is much heavier once the stock has been added!! Here it is on 6 trestles ( 8 during assembly/disassembly ), but is now on 2 reinforced Ikea Kitchen trolleys aided by 4x 5.5m [50 x 25 x 3mm]
It's predecessor was a 1.5 door layout on 2 levels simply called 'Skandi Demo' to provide interest when working on the Society Stand at shows.
This layout made with 360 degree access presents a Swedish station on the 'Front' side, and a Norwegian Station on the rear, upper level. The lower levels are for trains passing through countryside and including a small lake and ferry. The timber industry is provided with a working crane where visitors can spend their time loading or unloading wagons. A 3.5m Iron Ore train can be 'hidden' in the lower level before being one of the trains to use the 3.5 turn Helix which gives through running access in all directions to the 3 main levels ... so stock can be left runninng on the lower levels and then come to a station on the top. Sweden had lots of narrow gauge railways until about 1973 - and so narrow gauge lines also feature. And finally, the central 'scenic barrier' hill features a straight road which can be used as an airstrip - of course.
The intent, at shows, is always to ensure there are trains running - which can easily be rotated for variety with multiple platform and storage tracks.
The helix CAN be hidden by a 'Mountain' with a Swedish Castle - but is seen here as a 'Sink Hole' featuring an independent pair of tracks and holiday park. (The pump house is from the Nederlands, to a British Design)
These loops can also be operated by visitors, independently of the main layout. Everything is DCC controlled - even the Magnorail Cyclists / Cars.
Rocomotion with Roco MultiCentrale Control and MulimausPros are used for control (predating Z21).
In the darness of the Fairground at Night, we used to operate local SWR Class 450s and International Sleeper trains - all with illuminated cariages.
In daylight we would use Swedish Norwegian or Danish examples.
The layout was built, and is set-up and operated by just 2 people - hence we have no video of it in normal operation.
