We've ranked the national climate plans of countries based on how well they have integrated gender equality. And it's not looking good.
Ahead of the UN Climate Ambition Summit taking place on 12 December, marking the 5th Anniversary of the Paris Agreement, CARE calls on all countries to submit more ambitious climate plans in 2020 and build resilience for the poorest with gender equality as core to climate action.
Climate disasters mostly hit women and children hardest, and they are more likely than men to die during a disaster. Women and girls play central roles in highly climate vulnerable sectors such as subsistence farming. But they are less likely to have access and control over the resources they need to prepare and adapt to climate change impacts.
CARE Climate Change has analysed the most recent NDCs (submitted as of 16 November 2020) and scored their gender performance. Find out where your country ranks: [ Ссылка ]
Only 8 out of 18 NDCs submitted so far include a reference to women or gender. Most of these only mention gender in the context of broad cross cutting issues and not specifically in relation to climate change policies. CARE urges governments to keep women and girls at the centre of climate action.
