It’s election season and The Quint is on the ground to get you all the updates. Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal is gearing up for the upcoming polls.
The six-phase election, from 4 April to 5 May, is crucial for the ruling Trinamool Congress. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is facing strong opposition from her one-time ally, the BJP.
In 2011, Mamata Banerjee overthrew the three decade-old Left government and came to power for the first time after a resounding victory. But, ever since Didi came to power, incidents like the Park Street rape and Kamduni rapes created a serious threat perception in terms of the law and order situation of the state under a woman chief minister.
While Banerjee braved all the allegations, the Saradha scam in 2013 and more recently, the sting operation by Narada News have cast doubts on the honesty of Didi’s administration.
But the most important factor in a democracy is the electorate. Will Mamata Banerjee will hearts and votes yet again?
The Quint will be on the streets of West Bengal finding out the answers for you.
