The hike from Bygdin to Bitihorn is a classic route close to Beitostølen, on the border of Vang and Øystre Slidre. The panoramic view from the top makes Bitihorn one of the most visited mountains and viewpoints in Valdres.
There are two trails taking you to the top of Bitihorn. The northern trail is the easiest route and can be accessed even in winter. The alternative southern trail requires technical climbing, and should only be undertaken if you know the route well or if you’re together with someone who does.
Upon reaching the top, there’s a huge telecom antenna and a modest cabin that’s not open to the public. Bitihorn was initially climbed in 1811 by the botanist Christen Smith, who carried out botanical investigations in Jotunheimen.
