The Russian invasion of Ukraine has put the European energy and climate security policy through its most difficult test so far. The effective implementation of the REPowerEU plan to decouple Europe from its overreliance on fossil fuel imports from Russia, while keeping on track the energy transition, will require new and improved energy governance mechanisms on EU and member-states level. CEPS together with the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) will discuss options to strengthen energy governance to effectively address the risks related to the early phase out of Russian oil and gas and the increasing dependence on mineral raw materials from authoritarian regimes in general.
