Lead investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda has outlined how they ruled out Longwe Twala as the possible shooter in Senzo Meyiwa's killing. Gininda also dealt a blow to defence lawyer Thulani Mngomezulu's assertion that Twala had shot Meyiwa during a scuffle inside the house, and had even shot himself in the foot and then sought medical attention to have a bullet removed.

Further, Gininda says there was no evidence to support a statement by one of Meyiwa's family members, Edward Hlophe - that Hlophe was told that the soccer star was mistakenly shot.
