The monthly appointment "Live Talk with the Authors" of Journal of Cardiac Surgery, will host for its July 2022 episode, a very interesting topic in heart surgery: valve sparing vs valve replacing aortic root replacement surgery.
The valve‐sparing aortic root replacement (VSARR) operation replaces the aneurysmal aortic tissue while preserving the native aortic valve. The VSARR is an alternative operation to the valve‐replacing aortic root replacement (VRARR)
where both the aortic root and aortic valve are replaced with a composite valve‐graft (valved‐conduit).
Recommendations for VSARR have recently appeared in European guidelines but not in American guidelines. In July's issue of JOCS, the Northwester University (Chicago) group, have published a direct comparison of their VSARR vs VRARR patients operated between 2007 to 2019.
We will discuss this paper with the first author Chris Malaisrie MD, Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Northwestern University and co-director of the Marfan Clinic, Bicuspid Aortic Valve Clinic and Thoracic Aortic Surgery Program.
Ourania Preventza MD, Professor of Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Assistant Program Director, Thoracic Surgery Integrated Residency and Independent Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine,
Dr Ismail El-Hamamsy MD, Randall Griepp Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery and System Director of Aortic Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital NYC and
Robert Bonow MD, Max and Lilly Goldberg Distinguished Professor of Cardiology at Northwestern University, will debate the manuscript.
Gianluca Torregrossa MD (Lankenau Heart Institute - Philadelphia) and Dr. Irbaaz Hameed MD (Yale University - USA) will moderate the session.
Please join us Live on Saturday July 16th at 8:00 AM EDT (NYC Time) and ask questions using the comment section of the social media platform you will attend the session from.
