Chairman of the University College Hospital branch of the Joint Health Sector Unions, Oladapo Olabampe, has called on the Federal government to urgently address what it termed the poor economic conditions and perceived social exclusion imposed on health workers through non-payment of their salaries for nine months.
Head of the medical Association at the nation's Premier tertiary medical institution described this action as a flagrant violation of relevant provisions of extant labour laws and international labour standards.
He said failure to prioritize their welfare could amount to falling standards in the medical profession as well as steep decline in qualitative healthcare delivery across medical facilities in the country.
In the final analysis, he warned that despite no positive response by the federal government on some critical issues in spite of previous assurances, it could result in the total collapse of the sector.-------------------------------------------------------------------------
