In this episode of Insight, former host Jenny Brockie looks at what its like to grow up in isolation. We speak to those who were being raised or are being raised away from mainstream society and look at what the impact has had on them later in life. Guests include The Atchley family who live an extremely secluded life in the middle of Alaska with their 14-year-old son. Emma, who was born into an Amish family and for the first 18 years of her life had little to no contact with the outside world. Tara who grew up in rural Idaho with radical survivalist Mormon parents with no medical records. Ben, who at 18 months of age was handed over to ‘The Family’ cult led by a woman who said she was a reincarnation of Jesus. Siblings, Robin and Chris who grew up on the edge of New Zealand’s South Island in almost complete geographic isolation with no TV, internet or milk.
