Salty the swan was just a little grey ball of fluff when Daria Andrews found him abandoned in mud by a river, but he soon grew up (and up!) and became a member of the Andrews family.
He developed his own endearing habits, unpredictable tempers and personality quirks, as well as a special love of road trips.
Knowing that Salty would one day return to the wild, the Andrews tried not to become emotionally attached to him, with absolutely no success.
