When we say we’re going surfing, what we really mean is that we’re going to paddle out, sit in the lineup and try to catch a wave. We use our experience and intuition to select the ideal wave, but we can’t fully predict how it will break. We need to read it as it unfolds and adapt, so we cut back when it’s slow, or we race down the line when it’s pitching. But neither surfing nor skateboarding are merely mechanical acts, they are fully realized only by adding our individual style. Style is an expression of play, an extra flourish layered on top of functionality. You need to have good technique of course, but style makes it your own.
With style we forget our fears and our expectations and we get into the flow. We’re able to throw some sizzle into our line, add our personal flair. At the end of the day we ride not as a competition to win something, but because the very act itself is the reward. Each moment of the ride is meant to be savored, celebrated. Sure there are those times when the ocean seems like it wants to spit us out, or the pavement feels particularly rough, and that’s okay. It’s in the paddle back out, or the walk up the hill, where we find our center and reconnect to the source of original style.
The world is still rebounding from recent events, and the market continues to be choppy. Yet at Carver we’ve continued to develop exciting new products and partnerships, from high performance recycled plastic boards and legendary collabs to new wheels, bushings and truck colors. Whether it’s in the water, on the pavement or in the boardroom, we never lose sight how we roll, because when it comes down to it, style is everything.
