We’re delighted to welcome Paul Matic back to Piston Recordings with his latest release, ‘Neva Felt This Way’. A gifted producer and multi-instrumentalist, Paul’s love for house music began in the late 80s, when he was captivated by the raw energy of acid house. Since then, he’s dedicated himself to a deep exploration of house music, honing a sound that reflects his deep appreciation for both the classic and modern elements of the genre. Since 2016, Paul has consistently delivered high-quality releases on respected labels, particularly in the realms of deep and tech house. Following his previous Piston release, ‘Translations’, this latest effort showcases his evolution as an artist and we’re excited to continue this journey with him and look forward to seeing where his creative vision takes him next.

‘Neva Felt This Way’ gets the release underway, radiating a raw, organic essence, blending warm, lush chords with hypnotic string melodies that draw you in. Spoken-word ambiance adds a reflective, storytelling layer, while sharp claps and chunky kicks drive the rhythm with earthy precision. A thick, analogue bassline anchors the groove, delivering depth and warmth, while pitched vocal snippets float through the mix, adding a dynamic and emotive touch. Top-notch stuff. ‘A Deep Piano Lounge’ rounds out the release, with subtle, muted kicks and surreal melodies, setting a dreamy, atmospheric tone. A lush, raw groove driven by heavy, thumping kicks, crispy hi-hats and striking claps soon takes over. Rhythmic percussions add layers of texture, while detuned piano melodies lend an emotive, slightly off-kilter charm. Anchored by deep, rumbling basses, the track unfolds with a balance of smooth sophistication and raw, danceable energy, creating an entrancing sonic journey.
