(17 Jan 2019) European Union's Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier visited Lisbon on Thursday for talks with Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa and other officials.
Earlier, Barnier told Portuguese lawmakers that he hopes British Prime Minister Theresa May's consultations with national political leaders can help break the deadlock over the terms of the UK's departure from the EU and herald "a new stage" in Brexit negotiations.
Barnier is in Lisbon on a longstanding invitation to meet with local officials including a working lunch with Costa.
