Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman on Monday responded to Rahul Gandhi's remark on the decades-old 'Halwa Ceremony' and said that she was 'pained' by the statement made by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.
Replying to the Budget debate in Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said, "It pains me. If only we know the background with which Halwa ceremonies are celebrated. In this country, there is a tradition of serving something sweet before starting any good work. When did it become a photo event? In 2013-14, why didn't he (Rahul Gandhi) ask the then Finance Minister about how many SCs and STs were there in the ministry?"
