This performance is from The Ed Sullivan Show, 31 January 1971.
The source video I used to create this one is here: [ Ссылка ]
That was the best-quality upload featuring this performance I could find online, and it is the official upload on the official Ed Sullivan Show YouTube channel. I have replaced the audio track with a high-quality one I purchased as a 16-Bit/44.1 kHz digital download from Qobuz at the following page: [ Ссылка ]
This is CD quality, and I downloaded it in the lossless AIFF audio format. Please be aware that the process of uploading a video to YouTube does cause some loss of audio quality, but to me, the audio quality of this video still sounds superb.
The source video includes a spoken introduction by Ed Sullivan at the beginning, and I have removed this. I have included some of the audience applause at the beginning and end of the video which is not included in the HQ audio track I am using; the first second of audience applause at the beginning and the last two seconds of audience applause at the end are taken from the original audio track belonging to the source video. The source video was slightly out-of-sync, with the picture running a bit late compared to the sound, so I have fixed that. I have also added optional subtitles for the lyrics.
This song was written by Norman Whitfield (music) and Barrett Strong (lyrics). The original version, released as a single and album track in 1971, was produced by Norman Whitfield. This Ed Sullivan Show version is commonly referred to as a "live" one, for example the HQ audio track I am using is titled "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me) (Live On The Ed Sullivan Show, January 31, 1971", but I am not claiming it to be "live" because to me it appears to be lip-synced. This is certainly a quite different version than the well-known one, and excludes the second verse and chorus. On both versions, the lead vocalist is Eddie Kendricks, and the line "Every night, on my knees I pray" is sung by Paul Williams. According to Wikipedia, the single went to No. 1 in their native USA, reached No. 8 in the UK and No. 72 in Canada, and did not chart in Belgium, Germany or the Netherlands. No other territories are mentioned.

I have not been able to find an official presentation of the lyrics to this song. Presented below and as optional subtitles in the video is my own transcript of the lyrics for this particular version of it, for which I have used the transcripts for the single version found on lyrics websites as a guide.
LYRICS
"Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" (Ed Sullivan Show Version)
- The Temptations
(Words by Barrett Strong, Music by Norman Whitfield)
Oooh
Oooh
Each day, through my window, I watch her as she passes by
I say to myself, "You're such a lucky guy"
"To have a girl like her is truly a dream come true"
"Out of all the fellas in the world, she belongs to you"
But it was just my imagination
Running away with me
It was just my imagination
Running away with me
Every night, on my knees I pray
"Dear Lord, hear my plea"
"Don't ever let another take her love from me or I will surely die"
Hmmm, (Her love is) heavenly
When her arms enfold me
I hear a tender rhapsody
But in reality
She doesn't even know me
(Just my imagination) Once again
Running away with me
Tell you it was just my imagination
Running away with me
I never met her but I can't forget her
(Just my imagination) Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Running away with me
Tell you it was just my imagination
Running away
Running away with me
