Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare, set in Verona, Italy. The story revolves around two young lovers, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, whose families are embroiled in a bitter feud. Their love blossoms quickly after they meet at a Capulet party, despite knowing that their families would never accept their union.
The couple secretly marries the next day with the help of Friar Laurence, hoping their union will mend the rift between their families. However, a series of unfortunate events unfolds when Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, in a duel avenging the death of his friend Mercutio. As a result, Romeo is banished from Verona. Desperate to reunite with Romeo, Juliet seeks Friar Laurence's help and takes a potion that makes her appear dead. The plan goes awry when Romeo, unaware of the scheme, believes Juliet is truly dead and returns to Verona. Heartbroken, he takes his own life by poison. When Juliet awakens to find Romeo dead beside her, she takes his dagger and joins him in death. Their tragic end ultimately leads to the reconciliation of the Montague and Capulet families, underscoring the senselessness of their feud and the devastating consequences of hatred.
