Sky News host Rita Panahi says proud is “the last thing” Australians are feeling at the moment following Rachael ‘Raygun’ Gunn’s performance at the Paris Olympic Games.
“Australian Sports Commission’s CEO Kieren Perkins has told The Project we should be proud of Raygun, the breakdancer, and what he called her ‘awesome’ display at the Olympics,” she said.
“But in comments on The Project’s own Instagram page, ‘proud’ is the last thing Aussies are feeling right now.”
A commenter slammed Raygun’s performance at the Olympics as an “insulting and shameful display of privilege and appropriation”, while another defended not liking her dance moves, writing it’s “not hating to say the performance stank and there must have been some female in Australia that could do better”.
“I got to say, I don’t appreciate Australians being bullied into silence – what? We can’t be critical of something as public as an Olympic performance? When the whole world’s laughing at it, we’re not allowed to?” Ms Panahi said.
