Today we take you on the first half (Part 1) of our trip on Hwy 64, east of the Grand Canyon Village (Desert View Road) on our way out to the Desert View Watchtower (near the East Entrance).
Part 1 ends with us stopping at Moran Point.
Part 2 will take us out to our destination the Desert View Watchtower, an 85 step 70 ft tower giving a 360° view from observation deck.
General information:
Desert View Drive (Open All Year) is a scenic route to the east of Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim which follows the rim for 25 miles out to the Desert View Watchtower (70 ft tower) and East Entrance. Little known 1956 TWA-United Airlines crash site that claimed the lives of all 128 passengers and crew after 2 commercial passenger planes collided over the Grand Canyon.
