My Focus RS gets a Whiteline handling upgrade!

The new part(s) from Whiteline, coming all the way from Australia, are the Lower Front Control Arm / Toe Arm set!

When I was installing the Summit / Swave rear lower 2 point sub-frame to tie bar strengthening brace, I had to deal with the rear toe arms as one of the bolts for the Summit brace on either side also went through the rear toe arms. This was not as easy as I had hoped and indeed it opened my eyes to how to deal with the toe arms and also made me wish for a set of adjustable arms.

Whiteline to the rescue - this is exactly what they have provided!

An upgrade over the stock rear toe arms in multiple ways, these Whiteline rear lower control / toe arms immediately strike me as looking super awesome as well as being way more chunky than stock!

The stock toe arms are made from stamped steel (about 2mm- 3mm thick) whereas the Whiteline toe arms are made from very strong alloys and are consistently thick all the way round. This feature has the benefits of being heavier duty, able to withstand much more stress than the stock toe arms, and also will not rust the way that the stock toe arms are susceptible to.

The next way that the Whiteline control arms are an upgrade over stock is the bushings. The stock Ford toe arms on the Focus RS use a simple rubber bushing. This is both overly compliant (squishes easily, even with just the force of the hand) and also rubber degrades fairly quickly over time and would need replacing eventually anyway.

The Whiteline toe arms use Whiteline's proprietary market leading synthetic elastomer low compliance bushings. This gives an improvement in less unwanted flex without adding excessive NVH as well as being much more durable than the stock rubber bushings.

The final way that the Whiteline rear lower front control / toe arms are better than stock is adjustability.

The stock toe arms are a fixed length, which is useful to use when getting an initial setup of the Whiteline toe bars without having to immediately get an alignment done, as you will see in the video!

The Whiteline toe bars, however, are adjustable so before they go in, the initial length can be set by twisting either end and then once installed, the length and therefore the amount of toe can be adjusted in quick time by simply loosening the lock nuts and then twisting the centre section of the Whiteline bars by hand.

This is especially useful in a time constrained scenario such as being on track / motorsport. Indeed the ability to dial toe in or toe out is very much a motorsport focused thing. Sure, it may be needed to resolve issues with an alignment for the road which these will facilitate but generally you want to run straight / no toe on the road. A motorsport alignment is different though as toe in or toe out can be a useful tool in dialling in the perfect setup on track, depending on whether you are needing to optimise straight line or cornering performance!

So these Whiteline rear lower front control / toe arms are a great upgrade for road and track and look awesome too so check out how to install them!
