Lesson 22, Beethoven Sonatina in G major, 謝明琪 Michelle Lin, 40 years of private piano teaching, 20 years of class piano teaching at community college, Master Degree in Piano Performance, Indiana University.
Hi everyone, this is Michelle. Beethoven was a German composer and pianist who was born in 1770 died in 1827. Beethoven was a crucial figure between Classical and Romantic Eras. He remains one of the most important influential and famous composers in the music history.
Sonatina in G major has 2 movements. The first movement is in 4/4 time, second in 6/8-time. Both are written in Sonatina forms with exposition, development, recapitulation and coda.
The music was simple and elegant. It was one of my favorite pieces when I was a kid. The tempo in the first movement is “Moderato”, means moderate speed. The 2nd movement is “Romance”, was used in the 18th century for simple lyrical pieces. The Oxford Dictionary of Music states that “generally it implies an especially personal or tender quality”.
