Helpful rats led archaeologists to a treasure trove of finds at Oxborough Hall in Norfolk. Tudor-period silk clothes and embroideries were used to build cosy nests tucked beneath the floorboards. While fragments of shredded paper led to the discovery of a 500 year-old manuscript and a book of psalms possibly hidden by Catholics fearing persecution.
More recent finds, including vintage cigarette, chocolate and crisp packaging were also found during the multi-million pound project to completely refurbish the roof, windows and chimneys of the Norfolk stately home.
