Apple TV Remote Cheap Replacement Review and Overview. Our Apple TV remote died after years of use. It no longer charges. Luckily I found a $11 universal replacement remote for Apple TV’s Gen 1 - 4. But is it any good and does it work? It came in this plastic pouch, no directions, so I hope it’s easy to use. It requires 2 AAA batteries (that were not included). So I’m trying this remote for the first time. There’s a power button. I’ll press that. It turned on my LG tv and my Apple TV. It has navigation buttons, down, right, let up. An OK button to select something. If I go to Netflix, I can press OK. It has a menu button to go back. It also has a back button and a volume control, that seems to be controlling my Vizio sound bar. Then at the bottom, we have controls like stop, play/pause, fast forward, etc... This remote does not have voice command. Make sure you read what equipment this device will work with before you purchase it. I like this remote. It’s easy to use and saved me a lot of money! If you have the money, you can also buy the real thing at the Apple Store.
