Traditional drill spindle designs required the power of the motor to travel through a gearbox to generate the required torque to perform diverse drilling, scribing, tapping and milling for example. Transmission of the motor’s power through a gearbox substantially diminishes the power actually delivered to the cutting tool. In addition to the loss of power at the tool the gearbox requires maintenance to the gears, bearing and seals.
FICEP’s “Direct Drive” spindles on the Gemini deliver 100% of the motor’s power to the tool as the need for a gearbox is eliminated. There is no loss of power with the Direct Drive system. Secondly the gears, bearing, seals and their related maintenance are eliminated with FICEP’s Direct Drive system.
Drilling holes in steel plate has never been more productive since FICEP introduced sub-axis spindle positioning on the Gemini. The spindle has its own independent sub-axis so it is not necessary to clamp and unclamp the plate after each spindle operation and reposition the gantry. The ability to move the spindle with its sub axis permits such operations as milling and scribing without having to move the double bridge gantry.
