Just 12 kilometres South-West of Nicosia is one of the oldest places of worship in the island, dedicated to the Virgin Mary – the cave Church of Panagia Chrysospiliotissa. The name comes from Chryso which means gold and spilia which means cave. Every summer, on the 15th of August thousands of believers visit the church.
