So I wanted to do something like this for the Zelda Rap around the time it got released, but unfortunately most of the original files are gone. (VVV READ MORE BELOW VVV)
Anyway here's the complete SB for Starbomb's Smash Bros video (as well as the advanced drawings that go on top of them ready for animation, known as layouts). These were mainly done by myself, with assistance from Jake, Paul and Nico here and there.
Looking at this you can see some ideas that had to be dropped due to time constraints...I think the original "Can't we all just get along" shot would have managed to check off most of the missing characters (Greninja, Charizard, Robin, Palutena etc), but we had to ditch it because it would have eaten up too much of the 7 weeks we had to make the video. I really regret not finding the time to add Shulk with the Monado piercing his abdomen.
There were a lot of things I'd have done with more time available, such as adding shading, more creative colour palettes (like in the Zelda one) and more detailed backgrounds, but reception to the cartoon has been positive and overall I like how it turned out. Of course I have to thank Arin and co. for giving me the opportunity to direct again, I fucking love doing music videos.
