STORYLINE:
Ukrainians gathered in Kyiv's landmark Golden-Domed Saint Michael's Monastery on Sunday to celebrate Orthodox Easter.

The Metropolitan Epiphany held the traditional Easter service over the last night, which coincided with the usual curfew hours from 12 am until 5 am.

There was a live stream option of the nightly religious service because people couldn’t attend.

During the morning hours of Orthodox Easter, people brought adorned baskets with traditional cakes and painted in different colors eggs inside.

They lined up outdoors in front of the church, and the priest sprinkled holy water on every basket. Each time he waved his hand to spread the sacred water, he said: “Christ is risen.”

“As never before, Easter in times of war inspires us with hope and faith in the future, in the victory of Ukraine, in God's protection of our Motherland,” said Inna Holivets.
