Join the Municipal Art Society and its partners at The New School to share lessons learned from Hurricane Sandy and cultivate ideas for creating a more livable and resilient New York metropolitan area. The day-long event will feature a wide range of local area experts and community leaders as well as special guests from New Orleans who were instrumental in the recovery of their neighborhoods.
With a mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions and break-out sessions, the goal of the event is to facilitate peer-to-peer learning among community leaders, civic officials, entrepreneurs, residents, and urban planning and design practitioners and spark a conversation about how to move forward from this devastating event-and prepare for the next one. A sampling of focus topics includes:
- What tools do New Yorkers need to protect, strengthen and grow their neighborhoods?
- How can we ensure adequate infrastructure response for our vulnerable populations?
- What are entrepreneurial New Yorkers doing now to aid in Hurricane Sandy's recovery efforts?
- What lessons have we learned from the use of social media in responding to Hurricane Sandy?
- What messages do we want to share with local, state and federal government?
