Manipur has been in the grip of intense violence over the past fortnight, starting with the brutal murder of a 31-year-old mother in Jiribam, followed by the killing of a farmer in Bishnupur. Militants targeted farmers in Sanasabi Loukol village, leading to an exchange of gunfire that injured an army jawan. The situation worsened when six members of a family were abducted and found dead in the Jiri River. In response, protests erupted across Manipur, including a ‘coffin march’ in Churachandrapur. The Ministry of Home Affairs has deployed additional security forces to restore peace, while the Centre has tasked the NIA with investigating certain cases.
