JustAnswer Customer: My kitchenAid range will not hold oven temp.
JustAnswer Customer: It preheats to correct temp, but will not maintain.
JustAnswer Customer: Today I placed oven thermometer on shelf with roast.
JustAnswer Customer: After about an hour of roasting at 350 F, I checked.
JustAnswer Customer: Thermometer said 260 - 270 F.
JustAnswer Customer: I hit STOP, and programmed Roast at 350F.
JustAnswer Customer: When I hit START, the display showed 272 F as current temp (So the thermometer and the sensor agreed at this point!) Repair versus replace?
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Hello, and thank you for using this service.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: I'll be helping you with your problem today.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Is this a gas or electric range may I ask?
JustAnswer Customer: Electric model KERK807
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: OK so the first thing you want to check is the bake element.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: The bake element itself can be bad and the oven will still preheat because the broil and convection element turn on during preheat to get the oven to the correct temperature faster.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: But after the temperature has been reached, the oven will only use the bake element.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: So if the bake element is bad, the oven will just continue to slowly cool down.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Now if the element has between 10 and 40 ohms (meaning that it's good), then that means you could have a bad control board or a bad oven sensor.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: You can't test the board but you can test the sensor.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Open the door and remove the 3-4" long thin metal rod attached to the back wall.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: There are 2 screws holding the sensor on that you can remove and then pull the sensor forward until you can disconnect it.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: With a multimeter, check the resistance of the sensor at room temperature and it should be about 1080 ohms.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: If it's not, replace the sensor, otherwise you need to replace your relay board.
Tyler Z.: Home Appliance Technician: Regardless of the issue, I would definitely repair the oven as opposed to replacing it because the repair will be much cheaper than a new unit for this problem.
