Title:
3D Integration Technology for Modular Quantum Computer
Speaker:
Ryoichi Ishihara
Abstract:
Quantum computer chip based on spin qubits in diamond uses modules that are entangled with on-chip optical links. This modular quantum computer architecture enables a negligible crosstalk, increased connectivity, and a high fidelity when the number of qubits increases. Here, 3D integration is the key enabling technology as it features heterogenous integration of photonic and CMOS circuits for routing, control and readout of the qubits. Several engineering challenges exist in order to integrate the large number of spins in diamond with the on-chip circuits operating at a cryogenic temperature. I will review those challenges, present recent results and discuss future outlook of the integration technology for the realization of a scalable quantum computer based on diamond spin qubits.
Bio:
Ryoichi Ishihara is associate professor in the department of Quantum and Computer Engineering in the faculty of EEMCS at TUDelft, and group leader in the Quantum Internet division at QuTech.
He received his PhD from Tokyo Institute of Technology (1996). After moving to TU Delft in the same year, he established thin film electronics using thin-film transistors (TFTs). He is also special appointed associate Professor in Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Highlights of Ishihara’s career include monolithic 3D-IC using single-grain TFTs (2008), carbon nanotube vertical interconnect via’s (2013), and the first solution processed flexible Si TFTs on a plastic (2013) and paper (2015). His current focus at QuTech is on fabrication of scalable qubit and advanced packaging technology for integration of qubit.
He is a co-author of more than 95 journal papers and 110 international conference papers and a co-inventor of 14 granted patent families.
ABOUT QuTech360 seminars:
QuTech360 is a series of seminars where people of all QuTech divisions have the opportunity to build a deep understanding of the topics researched at QuTech. In each seminar, a quantum expert will guide us through one of the main topics studied in their group.
