(17 Oct 2019) US Vice President Mike Pence and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo leave Turkey following a five-day cease-fire agreement in Syria.
The U.S. and Turkey delegations reached the agreement Thursday.
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says they will stop attacks on Kurdish fighters in northern Syria to allow the Kurds to withdraw to roughly 20 miles away from the Turkish border.
The arrangement appeared to be a significant embrace of Turkey's position in the weeklong conflict.
Pence is heading back to the United States, while Pompeo will go on to Israel, where he will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem to discuss developments in Syria.
