In 2005, while still a student at Wake Forest University, Christopher Browder made a name for himself with a collection of acoustic covers ranging from Vanessa Carlton to Sigur Rós to Nelly. These covers, released under the name Bristopher Crowder (stylized as bristophercrowder) in a collection called 'Please Eat These Songs I Made For You', make up the first of his recorded solo work outside of his band at the time, Once More (Than Never).

In the same year, he would release an album of originals under the name Good Driver. Many of those songs would carry through to early Mansions releases.
