Gentle exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor and reintegrate these muscles with the breath. This video would work well for post natal mothers and anyone else with pelvic floor issues. This video explains how the pelvic floor muscles should work with each and every breath. It will be part of a series to bring awareness to and help strengthen the pelvic floor.
IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT TO RELEASE THE PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES AS IT IS TO ENGAGE THEM...many people have weak pelvic floor muscles because they are too tight.
This video is accessible to anyone.
HOW TO FIND YOUR PELVIC FLOOR MUSCLES
Women:
To find the muscles at the front which we generally have less awareness of...stop the flow of urine when you are having a pee. Don't do this as a form of exercise...just to get a feel of it.
To engage the different parts of the pelvic floor....squeeze the muscles around the front as if you are stopping yourself from peeing. Squeeze the muscles at the back, as if to stop yourself from farting. Squeeze the muscles around the vagina...towards the middle and draw up.
Engaging the muscles as a group the action is: draw together, in and up.
Men:
To find the muscles at the front of the pelvic floor, stop the flow of urine when you are having a pee. Don't do this as a form of exercise....just to get a feel for it.
To engage this section of the pelvic floor, squeeze the muscles around the front as it you are stopping yourself from peeing. You should see the base of the penis draw in and the scrotum rise. To engage the muscles at the back, it is as if to stop yourself from farting.
Engaging the muscles as a group: Draw together, in and up.
