When the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released its nominations for the 90th Academy Awards, the usual oscar bait was on display, but so were some odd choices for top films. The only place high grossing films had a place was in the technical categories. Just look at the oscar nominees like three billboards outside ebbing missouri, darkest hour, call me by your name, and phantom thread.
