President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to put an end to "transgender lunacy" in the United States, promising to take swift action to protect women's sports and uphold traditional values.

Addressing a crowd at AmericaFest in Arizona's Phoenix Convention Center, Trump assured his supporters that he would waste no time in implementing his vision for the country.

With his inauguration just weeks away, Trump pledged to use his executive powers to effect change from day one.

"With a stroke of my pen on day one, we’re going to stop the transgender lunacy," Mr Trump said.

"I will sign executive orders to end child mutilation, get transgender out of the military and out of our elementary schools and middle schools and high schools. And we will keep men out of women’s sports.

“Under the Trump administration, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders — male and female.”
