The first Aston Martin model to carry the Vantage name was officially launched in 1950 as an upgrade option for the DB2 model. This had a more powerful engine and a higher top speed than the standard DB2. The Vantage name was later used to designate the higher performance versions of other Aston Martin models such as the DB4, DB5, DB6 and DBS with a 325 hp 4 liter engine, but which was dethroned by the V8 version of the DBS. Because of this, in 1972, Aston Martin abandoned the six-cylinder engine and kept only the V8, and the base version was named the Vantage.
Since then, Aston Martin has taken all Vantage models to another level, changed the style, design, performance and technologies. From the classic Vantage, which debuted on the scene in 1950, to limited edition models such as the exclusive Aston Martin Vantage 007 edition inspired by the legendary James Bond.
