National park Garahonaj it is located in the central part of island Homere in Spain. It has received the status of national park in 1981. In 1986 it has been included in the list of the World heritage of UNESCO. The park area includes 40 km ². The park name has occurred from a rock of Garahonaj. Garahonaj is the highest point of island (1484 meters). The small plateau located in territory of park is at height of 790-1400 meters above sea level.
In park well remained damp subtropical laurel woods. Similar woods which also have remained on the Azores and islands Madieras, consist of the laurel evergreen trees reaching in heights of 40 meters. Under trees biothat is formed of grassy plants, an underbrush, invertebrates, birds and bats rich. Woods occupy 70 % of park's area.
