Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Roof Rack System consisting of part numbers Y00425, those are the jet stream cross bars, and part number Y00147, and those are the TimberLine towers for Yakima crossbars with factory raised side rails. Now we already have the front one installed. As you can see, the bars themselves have a nice aerodynamic shape to them, and that's going to cut down wind noise and drag while you're driving. Also, the 2 bars combined have a carrying capacity of 165 pounds, although you want to double check with your vehicle to make sure your vehicle can withstand that kind of weight on it's roof. Now since we have the front one installed let's go ahead and show you how the rear one goes into place. We already have it partially assembled on our table here. We'll kind of fill in the blanks for you.
The bars themselves when you get them will come with this strip installed underneath in this channel here. Once you get the proper measurements down you'll measure it out, cut it into place, and put them back in. Since this is just a demonstration today we're going to go ahead and just leave it out. Now you have the towers here, and then we have these bracket pieces, and that's going to come with the actual bar itself. We'll start by taking the black plastic piece, putting that on the top of the TimberLine until it snaps into place like so. Then we'll take our metal bracket, put that in the center, and it's going to match up with this screw in the center here like so.
Flip it upside down, open that up. Then we'll take our included torque tool, put it into that screw and then tighten it down just enough to keep it in place like so. Now, we'll go ahead and put this into the channel of our jet stream bars here, making sure that everything goes in, including those black plastic pieces there. Okay Just push it into place. Then we'll set it up on our vehicle just to get our measurements down. Put our straps underneath, and by measurements I mean how much far the crossbar overhang is going to be on each side.
Now we already figured it out earlier for the other side, so we'll just get it straightened out here. Once we have that done we'll take it back off and tighten it down. Go ahead and put our end cap back into place and measure it out. All right, once that's done we'll take our, once again included torquing tool and tighten it down until you hear some clicks, like that. With that done we can now set it back on our vehicle.
Now that we have the overhang set, I'm going to go ahead and get our crossbar spread set as well. Since this is on a factory side rails vehicle, there's no real set spacing between the bars that you have to abide by. I just go by whatever accessories you're going to be putting on your roof rack. Measure from center to center and we'll do the same thing on the other side. All right, that's good. With that done we can actually wrap our rubber coated steel straps around the bars, and it has this thing here you can grab with your finger and pull it up and over like so. Then you can start tightening it down, again with the included tool. This can be a little bit time consuming. Once this is snug I'm going to go over to the other side and repeat the process, and then tighten it down completely. When you tighten these down in the end, you will hear these clicks again. This is so you don't have to worry about if it's too tight or if it's not too tight. I don't think that's going to be going anywhere. Go to the other side now. Some accessories you can put on these racks would be a wide variety of th
